Surrey Army Cadets Take On The Challenge


 Cadets from the Surrey (PWRR Bn) Army Cadet Force took on the Isle of Wight Challenge and raised funds for ABF, The Soldiers Charity.

Cadets from the Surrey Army Cadet Detachments in Dorking, Redhill, Lingfield, Felbridge and Walton raced each other around the Isle of Wight from Saturday 26th October to Monday 28th October 2013.

The event was set up to raise a significant sum of money for the ABF, The Soldiers Charity who’s work support the Service’s family in times of need.

The event saw the Cadets race their teams’ around the 117km costal paths of the Isle of Wight over the three days. Not only were they faced with the prospect of walking such a distance over a terrain full of steep climbs and tricky ground, they also had the recent storm, St Jude to contend with.

The Cadet Training Officer, Lieutenant Chris Mansfield said of the event “The Cadets faced a great challenge covering this sort of distance. It really put their physical training and navigation skills to the test. The Cadets really got involved; they showed great courage and determination. The Cadets had a great time and they also raised a lot of money for the charity”
